Tom provided construction management oversight to The Southeast Sidewalk project. The project improved the streetscape and particularly the sidewalks 35 blocks in the southeast quadrant of downtown Houston. The pedestrian space was upgraded with wider sidewalks meeting ADA standards with streets trees and decorative, higher output 400-watt metal halide street lights. The asphalt streets were milled and new asphalt placed to create “new ” streets to support the new facilities cited in the next paragraph.
The improvements were built at the same time as the new basketball stadium for the Houston Rockets was being built (Toyota Center), the 1000-room Hilton Americas was underway and the George R. Brown Convention Ct. 66% expansion was underway–all at the same time. See description at this site of Tom’s role in coordinating all those projects in regard to traffic and permitting.
