Tom was a founding board member and Executive Director of the Cypress Creek Cultural District that promoted the cultural offerings and events in the northwest area of Harris County. He completed the 501(c)(3) application and the organization was granted the exemption.
The initial goal and direction recognized that the north area of Houston is an edge city–not just suburbia. The area has 1.4 million residents and a booming business environment. What makes it a city in its own right is the cultural life as well as the parks and coming fine arts museum. The “district” was formed to promote a change in the perception of those living and working in the area as well as those outside.
Tom built and maintained the web site of the organization to support and expand the visual and performing art communities in the Cypress Creek/FM 1960 area. Monthly meetings were held, goals set and accomplishments enjoyed.
To provide direct communications with the community Tom assembled email lists and created a monthly newsletter that linked the readers to the local theaters and art events.
